Background & Objectives: The pandemic of HIV/AIDS is spreading rapidly in the Middle East and in particular in Iran. The design of educational programs involves assessing the educational needs of people with a valid and culture-based tools. This study was conducted with the aim of psychometric instrument of AIDS knowledge scale based on population and culture of Iran.
Methods: In this psychometric, a list of tool include 58 items was prepared based on the literature review and researcher's experiences Then, the validity of the instrument was determent by the impact item score, content validity ratio (CVR), content validity index (CVI), and face validity analysis. Reliability of the scale was assessed by alpha Cronbach coefficient and Test-retest.
Results: Based on method of the face validity and content validity evaluation process, the research scale consisted of 44 items that had an item impact score above 1.5, a content validity ratio higher than 0.49, and a content validity index above 0.79, and was classified in three sections, general knowledge about HIV/AIDS (9 items), knowledge about HIV transmission (25 items) and knowledge about HIV/AIDS prevention (10 items). Internal reliability and stability of the scale was determined by alpha Cronbach coefficient (0.77 to 0.91) and Interclass Correlation Coefficient (0.88).
Conclusion: The results of study showed that instrument is a valid and reliable scale for measurement the knowledge about HIV/AIDS.
