Background & Objective: Annually about 7 million premature deaths occur due to air pollution in the world. Nitrogen oxides are among major air pollutants. Although many foreign exposure assessment studies carried out, but Iranian studies limited to elementary analysis. Hence in this research we studied spatial variation of Nitrogen oxides by using spatiotemporal modeling in Tehran 2014.
Methods: Nitrogen oxides concentrations were obtained from 21 air pollutants monitoring stations in Tehran, where number of observation was 8760 for each station and each pollutant. Holidays and elevation of the land were the predictors that implemented in spatiotemporal models. D-STEM software was used for analyses and mapping.
Results: Nitrogen oxide was significantly (P<0.001) decreased in holidays and by increasing of land elevation (with a coefficient of -0.070 and -0.169, respectively). Moreover, Nitrogen dioxide concentrations was decreased in holidays (with a coefficient of -0.630) but was increased with a coefficient of 0.155 by increasing of land elevation (P<0.001).
Conclusions:  Spatiotemporal exposure assessment of nitrogen oxides pollutants was done for residence in the Tehran city for the first time in this study. The output of this study that are estimation maps for daily nitrogen oxides, could benefit future epidemiological studies in evaluation of air pollutions on health of Tehran citizens.
